Alternator Warning Light

Trying to rewire a 7810S. How do you wire up the alternator warning light? I have the light wired in series between key switch and the IND connection at the alternator. Alternator is new. It is same as original without the battery sensor feature. Note the old wiring harness was trashed. Rewiring the whole tractor.
The light comes on when key switched. The light will only dim a little once the tractor is started and the alternator begins to charge. The alternator is putting about about 14.2V at the output. The IND connector has about 7V when the alternator is charging. So the light sees a voltage difference of 7.2V. Any thoughts?

That IND voltage should be within a few tenths of a volt of the OUTPUT, as it comes from another trio of rectifiers which feed the Field. Makes that trio of rectifiers look suspicious.
