Rear tires for a 961

Right now my 961 narrow front has 14.9 on good power adjust rims. They are nearly worn smooth so I'm seriously thinking of replacing them with new 12.4's
My reasoning is more pounds per square inch on the ground contact and slower ground speeds for a given gear. I don't need floatation. Thoughts?

My thoughts turn to the wheels. You say "Good power adjust rims".

14.9's would be on what, 12 or 13 inch wheels. 12.4's would want about 10 inch wheels.

If changing tire size requires buying new wheels too, and you want the power adjust, well that alone may be enough reason to stay within tire size that fits on your wheels.

I recommend the OEM 13.6 size. The are also the correct size for the OEM 11, as properly measured (12 overall), PA rims.

12.4s are one size undersized and look it.

My power adjust rims on the 961 measure 12 bead to bead. I currently have Firestone 12.4's on the diesel 2000 and those rims also measure 12 bead to bead.

The 13.6s on my row crop 4000 look 'right'. I can't imagine why anyone would want to go bigger or smaller.

I don't think going smaller is going to have a noticeable effect on ground speed in the lower gears. But it might be noticeable in road gear, which isn't all that fast even with the stock tires.

Wider tires typically have less slippage for a given weight than narrower tires. If you want more traction, add more weight.

Narrow tires will leave deeper ruts in your grass or pasture than wide tires, if you care about such things.
