Ford 850 barely runs after starting, then suddenly runs

My Ford 850 ran fine. Then one day, it started, but barely kept running. During this time, it sounded like it was only running on 2 cylinders. It would also backfire. Trying to increase throttle did nothing. After continuing to run this way for about 7 minutes, it suddenly 'popped' into running just fine. It would run fine after that. But, when I would start it the next day, the same series of events would happen. I changed the fuel filter (sediment bowl removed prior to my ownership); drained gas and replaced with 'new' gas; pulled/cleaned spark plugs (none were wet or fouled). It SEEMS like it runs crappy until it 'warms up', then SUDDENLY, all at once, runs great. Like some component has to warm up (expand?) for it to run right. I also checked/cleaned wires to coil and distributor. Any thoughts on where to go from here? Thanks in advance.

Sticking valves can do that due to heat. Once it warms up some the valves start working. I'd put a quart of ATF into 3 gal of gas and see if that helps
