Ford 3000 diesel - Missing when going up incline

Hi y'all - I have a 69 3000 diesel, Simms pump, that runs fine until I start to up an incline and starts to miss, rpms slow down, and sounds like it is going to die. It has never died. I give it more throttle and it will slowly catch up and once I get on a somewhat level surface pick up rpms and seems to run fine.

Any ideas what this might be?

Sounds like fuel starvation under heavy load. First thing I'd look for is adequate fuel from the tank. Tank off the line that comes from the
tank and make sure that a steady continuous stream comes out.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will try both and hope that will fix it!!
I'll let you know when I get the chance to followup. I ordered a new pump and will also check the flow from the tank.

With all of this rain I am getting so far behind.....not complaining but really strange for July. (Today I find our we have Army worms).

Thanks!

Is the lift pump the same for CAV and Simms?

I ordered the D8NN9350AB. Hope so.

I have a 730 loader and it is hard to get in there and work.....but I think I can do it. I'll need my patience hat for this one. First thing I need to do is clean off all of the grease and grime.

The Simms pump on a 3000 engine is an in-line "piston" injection pump, that has a membrane lift pump (fuel pump) mounted on its side. See part #115:

You ordered the correct lift pump, details:

To make it easier at reassembly, make sure the injection pump's cam shaft (that drives the lift pump) is "off lobe". If the old lift pump springs back at disassembly, turn the engine by hand until the resistance is at minimum.

A CAV pump on a 3000 is a rotary "vane" distributor injection pump (CAV DPA) without external lift pump:
