I finally got a chance to take my 6000 out this summer and put it to work. A good friend of mine down the road is a hay farmer, and since a 6000 doesn't have the hydraulics to pull the V-rake, I had to use the small ground-driven model. I also used the tractor to do some brush cutting along the sides of the fields.
Overall I'm very happy with the way the tractor turned out. As I'm sure is the case with most restorations, it was much more work than I thought, however it all seems worth it now.
Despite the poor reputation of the 6000, mainly for reliability reasons, I can see why some people really liked them. The ability to stand up is a huge plus for me, and the smoothness of the engine, as well as the SOS in the 5-6-7-8 range is second to none, which is where I spent all of my time raking and brush cutting.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my good friend Tim (Dopp Creek) for locating a second 6000 parts tractor for me and hauling it 300 miles to my house. Also my friend Ron for painting the sheet metal for this project, as well as his 16-year old son Mike who made a 3-minute video for me (link below). He did this totally on his own with absolutely no input from me. I think you'll be impressed with his video production skills.
