Ford 2000 Will not start after Case-Split

Have a 1965 2000 diesel-just split cases to repair clutch and now it will not start. Was running/starting fine until parked ten days ago to split the cases. Did nothing that should have affected the engine except had to cut the exhaust riser. I replaced it with a new one and reused the muffler. Vacuumed out the exhaust manifold prior to reassembling. It went back together fine with no issues. Bled the fuel system and have fuel at the injectors. The starter and battery are about three months old.

Have been trying to start it for two days now. Yesterday, it tried to start several times. Charged the battery overnight and today it just turns over with no sign of trying to run. Getting lots of white smoke and still have fuel delivery to the injectors. Anyone have any idea what I should try next?

White exhaust smoke means fuel is getting through the injectors, but compression heat is too cold. If engine has a block heater, try warming up the block 1-2 hours and try again. If not try a SMALL shot of ether at intake and see if engine will start then. MAKE SURE starter/battery/cable connections are clean and tight, slow cranking speed CAN make known good diesels hard to start, or not at all. Slow cranking speed means low compression heat.

2X slow crank. I had that with my truck when one battery went bad. I never noticed that it was slow but I sure noticed how much faster it spun once I installed the new battery. Just charge it up.

Do you have a thermostart or manifold glow plug?? If so, using it will help... even used a heat gun or the the wifes hair dryer to preheat the manifold for 4 minutes to warm up the air will sometimes help... A half second shot of ether will help, while cranking have some one give it a half second shot every 5 seconds into the air intake,, but remember that it has to be sucked through the air filter and it takes a second or two to get to the engine. DONT over-do the ether or you can damage the engine. As others have said, a block heater works very well also...

Adding jumper cables from a running vehicle with an alternator will help keep the current up while cranking. cranking faster is better.

How cold is it there???

It doesnt have have a glow plug. I did use my truck as a booster. The starter ran a little faster but it didnt start. Im in Florida, its been in the 80s every day.

Im perplexed, it would start and run perfectly until I split it to do the clutch work, now this. Ill try the ether today.

At 80 degrees I wouldn't try ether. Ether is mostly for increased volatility which at 80 degrees you don't need.

Not familiar with a 2000, but does it have a stop cable for the injection pump that could have the fuel shut off ?

(quoted from post at 17:45:43 04/17/21) It does have a stop cable but fuel is reaching the injectors.

Bellis, I am still where I was along with Dieseltech, at the beginning on this. Along with giving the battery a good slow twelve hour charge you need to give your battery cable connections a close going over.
