3 Cylinder Crankshaft Speedisleeve

I've used speedi sleeves on other applications and always remove flange with a pair of side cutters.
Here's a pic of the steering shaft i repaired with a sleeve. It was badly pitted

I put one on and took the flange off.

Not to cheat our hosts out of a sale but I
bought mine at our local bearing house.
Paid about $70 iirc.

(quoted from post at 10:59:02 03/07/21) I need to put a speedisleeve on the crankshaft of the 4100 engine I'm assembling.

Can the flange stay on or does it need to be removed?

A lot of times in this situation the flange can be left on. Depends on the length of the sleeve in regards to where the lip will end up. If your sleeve is short, you may need to leave the sleeve further out where the lip can end up in the way. Need to be sure it does not interfere with anything, like an oil slinger, seal, pulley, etc. Having the correct length sleeve here helps a lot.

If you do remove it, do so carefully. Sometimes the lip can be a bit of a bear to snip thoroughly, especially if it is up against something like the crankshaft gear. I've seen the sleeve distorted from the lip being pulled while not cut all the way to the score line.

Thank you for the responses.

It is done. I assembled it with Loctite 640. I removed the flange even though I probably didn't have to. I cut a slot to the score line with a thin wheel on an air cutoff tool before I tapped it on. :)
