Ford 3000 // Pertronix // Zenith

I finally tired of sputtering, backfires through carb, flooding, fiddling with points, uneven power output, etc. Not a whole lot of hours on a rebuild of the original carburetor and replacement points.

Ordered a Zenith carb. It bolted right up.
Ordered a Pertronix 1231 kit. Took a hole saw to the points cover to allow the magnet to fit, ran a wire to the battery side of the voltage stabilizer on the instrument cluster.

I goofed on compression/exhaust and it didn't start. Spun rotor 180 degrees. It chugged first crank and idled right down like my car, without any choke, after 10 seconds. If the tractor continues to run like this, the replacements will have been WELL worth the money.

What Zenith carb did you get and
where did you get it from. I am
thinking about getting a new one
for my 1970 3000. I already put
the Pertronix on it.

Ditto for our 3000. Replaced Holley with Zenith, put Pertronix
on, havent touched either one since then, and its been at
least 10, maybe more than 12 yrs. Tractor gets 100-ish hrs/yr,
wasnt used at all last year (family health issues) and started
up just yesterday. Those things and the Pats Quick Hitch
made this old tractor a pleasure to use.

Hope you have similar experience as us.
