The 4 cylinder 172 engine (gas) came with 7/16" bolts, later upgraded to 1/2". The head made for 7/16" won't work with a block made for 1/2". What about the other direction? Will a later head made for 1/2" bolts fit and work properly with a 7/16" block?

This job started out as replacing the transmission input shaft seals and has now progressed to a engine overhaul and finding cracks (currently non-leaking) in the head. This is a 7/16" block. We are investigating alternatives. I might be interested in a head if anyone has an appropriate one for sale.
