power steering pump

Hi, my name is Jim, I own a ’55 850.
I bought the power steering and front axle off a salvage tractor. I took the advice of Ultradog Mn and procured these:
Column.
L&R adius rods.
L&R drag links.
Pump.
Waterneck with ear for belt adjuster.
Turnbuckle belt adjuster.
2 hyd cylinders.
2 hyd lines from pump to column.
4 hyd lines from column to cylinders.
Pully Crankshaft

While viewing product documentation at the CNH site I have been referring to model 2030 because the front axle and power steering are accurate regarding what I purchased.

When I disassembled the power steering pump. I found water in the pump.

I don’t notice any pitting, but there is black coloring on the casting faces, shaft, rotor, oval insert and roller vanes. I’m tempted to clean off the corrosion before reassembly.
For reference the cover is marked EATON

Here is what I see

Have you disassembled your steering pump?
Do you have any experience dealing with internal corrosion on the power steering pump?
How did you resolve the condition?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Regards,
Jim

I dont have any experience rebuilding that pump, but if you cannot use your pump, the pump for a 65 Mustang power steering could work if you reuse your top reservoir from your tractor pump. The pump for a 65 Mustang is still available new.

Thank you Michford. I appreciate your knowledge on this subject. I will pursue this solution if my pump is shot.

That Eaton pump looks like the common one on many makes of tractors, trucks, and 50s cars. There are basically 2 replacement versions available today; a long nose and a short nose. I have not worked in parts for 5 years. Hopefully they are still available. Check with your local Napa or better parts store. It will be in the paper catalog in the identification section. Cardone is one brand that offered them. If you get stuck locally, try finding Lares Corp in Cambridge, MN

The PO said the power steering was working the last he used the tractor. The pump was off the tractor when I bought it and it had no pulley on the shaft but rolled over smoothly.
