Looking at possibly buying this 68 3000. It's pretty rough.. does have a loader. Don't know the condition of the motor yet. It does have a down exhaust so that's a good thing since it's been sitting outside for a while. What would you give for this project??

Also what does all the numbers mean in the last pic?

I for one would not touch it to
fix up. Select-O-Speed in very
poor condition. Parts tractor in
my eyes. Now the loader is a
different story if it is in ok
condition. Looks like $500-$800
to me for all of it. Lot of
people would like to have the
loader.

Tractor is worth $1000 for parts if the engine runs, $800-1000 for the power steering, profit would be what you could get from the engine and rear wheels.
The loader was had patch plates added indicating a rough life so $500 but to me any full frame loader is scrap iron, quick attach only for me.

(quoted from post at 19:18:21 01/26/21) Looking at the loader closer the
lift cylinders look totally
rusted.

John I think there is some square stock over the lift cyl rods to keep them extended.. check out this pic, zoom in on it

C1014E is the model number. 3000 diesel
w/ Select-O-Speed transmission and 540
rpm independent PTO.

8G26B is the unit number (date code).
1968, July 26, 2nd shift.
C211450 is the serial number. Starting
with a C means it's a U.S built model.

(quoted from post at 14:56:35 01/27/21) I saw a 4cyl 4000 with visegrips instead of the sos shifter.

That was probably in place of the control handle on the shifter. This one's missing the entire shifter assembly, including the cable, so there's nothing to connect the vice grips to. I suppose you could put the vice grips on the end of the short cable and move the cable in and out directly that way, but it would be hard to tell which gear you're in, and even harder to keep it held in any one particular gear as you drive the tractor around.

I would fix it right Sean if I buy it. Still thinking about it. Some of you guys say walk away and some say it's worth this and that if you part it out. I generally doubt part out tractors. I figure if there worth buying there worth fixing up and reselling.
I'm sure GBinMT will get on here and call me "the Bandit". I've done real well this past year buying and selling tractors. It's a fun retirement hobby and I stay outta my wife's hair

WELL Mike;
DID JA, or NOT????

UP DATE!!!!!

Gary?????

Dragging my feet right now Gary waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. I also gotta work out the hauling of the tractor with my neighbor. He's the one with the Duramax diesel PU and the 20' tilt bed trailer

Fords occupy 50% of my corral and have done so for the past 43 years. Currently own a '65 3000, have owned a '66. Good all around utility tractor. PS
is really nice to have and I like the Live PTO. Independent would be fine too. Don't like Tranny PTOs. I had a 4 cyl 4000 with a loader and do not like
Fords loaders......like the one you are looking at....they're "BEASTS"! Make getting to the engine almost impossible and he front end (including tires) isn't
built for a loader....much less that loader if it has anything in it, if you plan on doing any real work.

On "....its pretty rough"....that's putting it mildly....but one mans trash is another's gold.
