Hi all, I finally got around to publishing version 4 of my Ford Tractor Model Identification document. You can go to my web site here to view it:

Or you can click on the link below to download the PDF directly:

Ford-Tractor-Model-Information-Version4.pdf

One new model that I found out about that I hadn't heard of before and included is the 3055, model designator K10, which the parts site claims was made from 1965-1975 and was the predecessor to the 1975+ 4100. It has the same oddball 183ci diesel engine as the 3550 so I think that it might have only been made from 1972-1975 like the 3550 was. It is referred to in the parts site as the "French Super".

Please provide any feedback you might have for corrections or additions. Enjoy.

Hi Sean,

After a cursory glance, I do see one correction and one addition that needs to be made:

On page 12 regarding 6000 PTO options, there were only 3: no PTO, 540/1000, or 540/1000 with ground speed. There was no "540
only" PTO option for those tractors.

On page 13, you can add a model BDS444TS engine to that list. The S was for the straddle mount tractors such as the 7600. The
T was for the 7700/7710 models.

Bern,

Thanks for the input. Those will be in the next version, but I can't promise how soon that will be. It took me 6 years to find the spare time to go from version 3 to version 4.

Thanks for the updated version, I printed off a copy
I too have a coupe corrections and additions
In the 75 and newer engine section the P and N is not for the Emissionized engines, it is the engine size
P = 192
N = 201
I have a 96 model 3930 engine that has a code P on the hood tag and is not emissionized.
Also in the pto section Code W is Ind 540 pto used in 3939,4630 and 5030 tractors with the Kubota make rear axle, this axle was used with the 8x8, 16x8 transmission and the 8 spd models with FWA, not sure if W code was used on models with torque convertor or not

A addition is model code CA6, not sure when it started but found it on two 96 built 3930's
This one is the 3930 I parted out with 192 non Em engine, code W 540 pto and 8x8 trans

mvphoto68954.jpg

This is a CA6 3930 I saw on a lot with 192 non Em engine, code 4 540 pto and 8 spd trans

mvphoto68955.jpg

This is a neighbors 5030 trans case, notice the W pto and code W 16x8 trans, this tractor also has the Kubota built rear axle, the pto's in these axles are very different from the normal Ford pto

Class work sir,
I do agree with Bern on the engine code as my 345C has a 192 non- emission engine

Side note, when I was going to lots of auction in the Atlanta area back in the early 80’s, we had a man who always showed up with a container or two of
imported Fords, I recall several 3055’s being in the mix, we always commented that we had never seen or heard of them until then

Destroked,

Thanks for the information. Those P and N engine codes were in a note that was written in the margin of the original reference document that I received a scanned copy of from someone. He had gotten it as a photocopy of a document from a dealer's service department so he couldn't tell me what they meant. I looked back at my original copy and there were no parenthesis around the sizes, so the entire lines each had a question mark at the end. So, whoever had written them wasn't sure either.

The main original reference document that I have seems to have been produced around 1994 as no years after that were mentioned, but some were added as handwritten notes in the margins like those P and N engine codes. So any information on newer models, like the CA6, are appreciated. The ending dates for some models in my new document that are later than 1994 are based on the end dates of the production run as listed on the parts site.

As for the Torque converter info on the W PTO code, I added that as I had only seen the W PTO code used on a tractor that had a later torque converter transmission. I knew that there was no PTO option available on the earlier torque converter transmissions so I guessed that they had figured out how to add one and that it was somehow different from the other independent PTO's. You have confirmed that they are different, but not necessarily because of the torque converter trans so I'll remove that note in the next version.

(quoted from post at 08:39:14 01/26/21) wow. thanks!!

I was looking through some photos I had taken of model labels and found one I had taken back in Sept 2020. I dont remember what the actual model was but it doesnt line up with any info Ive seen before

Model # FA5PVW on a 96 model tractor

mvphoto68964.jpg

FA1-4 are 7600 thru 7710 model codes so FA5 leads me to think it might be for a 7610S model but I dont remember looking at one
P (192) engine code and W (8x8) trans code sends me back to a 3930 or 4630 that generally start with code C or D
The V pto code Ive never seen before

Wow, on an off-chance I entered the s/n from that FA5 label (031242B) into the parts site as a serial number lookup and it found a hit for it and says it is a 7740. I guess that kind of makes sense since there was no 7630 or 7730, and since FA4 is a 7610 that FA5 would be an 7x40. But that P engine code still makes no sense unless it is simply a later designation for a diesel without actually specifying the displacement.

I guess that serial number lookup on the parts site is valid for later tractors where they tracked the individual serial numbers. I just put in the s/n from that second "CA6" 3930 sticker that you posted the picture of (029369B) and that came back as a 3930.

That could be it as that turned down lip on the front of the hood doesn't match a 30 series hood.
That blows my N and P codes for engine size out of the water
The V could be a new code for the 540/1000 pto those tractors have
The W trans code has me completely confused, the 5030 had a 8x8 trans with dual power that only worked in forward gears, a switch on the shift top keep it from working in reverse.
A 7740 had 8x2 with DP (S model) making it 16x4, 12x12 with or without DP (SL model) and 16x16 electric shift (SLE model).
A cousin has a S model 7740 and a friend has a SLE model, I'm going to look at them and see what model codes they have.

They could be repeating some of the codes but that's uncommon. That said I have found two tractors for the DL4 model code
In your list and my 10 series parts book DL4 is a 530B industrial.
In my 30 series parts book DL4 is a 4830N narrow model
Also found some unlisted 30 series models in my parts book, I'll email you copies of those pages later.

Wow, even that BD47528 s/n from that picture of the 5030 numbers comes back as a 5030.

I then tried some random older serial numbers and it found some of them as far back as the BBxxxxx serial numbers, but they either had large gaps in sequentiual serial numbers or they weren't all entered into the database, as the farther back I went the fewer hits I was getting on random serial numbers.

What site are you doing this serial number lookup?

Stopped by my cousins on the way home and looked at his 7740S and you were correct.
Model code FA5 is for a 7740
His is FA5P5M
The P kills my theory of it being for a 192 engine and it's a 94 model with no emissions
Regular code 5 for the 540/1000 pto
Trans M code is for it's 8x2 with DP
Unit # 4F11B makes it a June 11 1994 build
Serial # BD79225 is a 94 number also

The other FA5PVW number is a friends 7740SLE I looked at
FA5 = 7740
P = diesel engine ?
V = ?? pto
W = 16x16 ?
The 5030's trans is a 8x8 with DP, Fords service manual calls it a 16x8, there's a switch on the trans that shifts it to low DP anytime reverse is selected, if this switch is bypassed it could be operated with 16 forward and 16 reverse gears. I'm wondering now if it's called a 16x8 but actually classified as a 16x16.
This is giving me a headache.

What site are you doing this serial number lookup?

The New Holland parts lookup site. On the main page you can select from a drop down list for how you want to search, "Keyword/part number", "Model", and "Serial or PIN number". If you select "Serial or PIN number" and type in a serial number it will bring up the parts drawings for that specific tractor if it can find it in the database.

Ok thanks, never tried using the serial number
My 6610 came up but no luck with the 69 4000's serial number.

The earliest serial numbers that worked for me were the numbers above BB51xxxx. I tried my '73 4000 and it couldn't find that either.

Did you get the email
I batched them and they may have not went through
If they didn't I'll send them single.

No, it did not come through. Did you get my reply to your PM?

Sent you a test email to see if you get it
Meanwhile I'll just post some of those pages here

10 series 3 cylinder models

mvphoto69051.jpg

30 series
Notice in the 10 series DL4 is a 530B and in the 30 series DL4 is a 4830N

mvphoto69052.jpg

This one I found a bit strange as it doesn't list the X code 8x8 or W code 16x8 transmissions but they are in the book.

mvphoto69053.jpg

Didn't know they built some models in Brazil

Destroked,

Thanks for posting those pictures of the model number pages. Out of all of those xx10 and xx30 series models, I was missing 9 of them.
