3 cylinder Ford 4000 injection pump

I think this is a cav pump, anyone happen to know if there any other filters in the pump. Seems like mine lost prime or something. I can get it to prime up to the injectors (fuel squirts out), but no smoke out of the stack. When dragging it around I can get the tractor to fire.

There is a screen under the fitting that the fuel line connects to, I've never seen one stopped up and you must take care when removing the fitting, there's a check ball and spring under the fitting that will fly out.
If you run it out go fuel it takes a while to get them to fire up again

I took the filter out and that seems good (crap out in it, but fuel still flows). We ended up towing it around yesterday for a bit and it would smoke, then fire for around 5 seconds at a time and die again. I have the battery charging again and I will try it again.

I as well having a issue with the 4000 3 cylinder diesel , same IP pump as well. IT seems after working the tractor a bit once you shut the engine off it does not want to start right up every time. Sometimes you crank on it for about 15 sec then it will fire up. Sometimes it will fire up within a sec or two. But seems to be getting harder to start....
Cold engine fores right up. And once running when at operating temp it runs good

How much fuel did you get out of the injection pump bleed screw?

What's your compression numbers in all three cylinders Mike?

Do you have fuel squirting out the injector lines when cranking?

I don't know what the compression numbers are. The tractor doesn't crank over as fast as I want it because it has the gas starter and ring gear in it. I crank it for about 30 seconds at a wack, then the starter solenoid started to smoke, let it sit for a few seconds and repeat. If I loosen the bolt with pipe fuel comes pouring out. If I take out the bleed screw completely, fuel just trickles out. It seems like if the loose injector (the one that I just loosened), it will try to run on the little fuel it gets. I do have a block heater and the motor is warm from, with the torpedo heater to. The cc on the battery is 960 I think, maybe 1000? My starter is starting to act up on me (the Bendix doesnt want to pop out), So a split look to be in the future to swap out the ring gear. Since the snowplow setup is mostly off, we will towing it around tomorrow to bleed it (took the tire chains off yesterday). I guess on the upside I hear the John Deere we have run for the first time in months.

I should have asked, but does that plug require me to crank the engine or is that plug fed gravity?

Ended up trying out the belt method and the belt snap after ten rounds. We towed the tractor around again and no gray smoke. Looks like the pump.

The pump definitely doesn't pump like in this video with all the lines cracked being towed around. It's looking like the pump.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6YEWiJ-Lx0
