School me on 3 cylinder Ford diesels?

I’m hoping to gain a little insight into the Ford 3 cylinder diesels as we have a 3910 at work in dire need of help. It came into the shop for an engine oil leak near the flywheel, it didn’t sound quite right to me so I cut the engine oil filter open and found sparklies. After I removed the engine and put it on a stand a little disassembly showed more loose metal which I traced to the rear main bearing that has been spinning in the block. A quick check of the crank shows about 0.040” runout.

So, what engine should be in this tractor and what others might fit? Anything I need to know about mixing and matching parts if I can find another block/crank? I’m in Eastern Canada and have tried most salvage yards I can find east of Ontario and very little luck so far.

Just trying to come up with economical repair options. Many thanks, Sam

Off the top of my head, I want to say that's a 183 c.i. engine... but that might not be right. Maybe a 192? Any of Ford's 3 cylinder engines will bolt right in. If yous isn't salvageable, I'd look for a 201. They're probably the most common of the 3 cylinders, and would give you a small power bump.

I have been in touch with Fawcett’s in Ontario who are, I think, connected to All States? They didn’t have anything, maybe I wasn’t asking the right questions. Hoping to find something in Canada for simplicity’s sake.

Good to know, so all of that era of 3 cylinder are exchangeable as a complete unit? I was under the impression that the current engine is a 192. Thanks, Sam

If you don't find anything else I have a good 192/201 block here. It's a later model BSD engine with the Xing on the sides.
Almost zero wear in the bores. I believe you could hone it good and go.
I would let it go cheap enough that you might get it across the border and home for what you'd pay for one at a boneyard.

3910 has a 192 engine that has 4.4 bore and 4.2 stroke, same engine is used on some 3930's.
4.4 block was also used on the 201 engine that came in the 4610 and early 4630.
There was a design change were they switched from 1/2" head bolts to 9/16 head bolts during the 10 series production so measure the head bolts in the engine you have
If your engine has the 1/2" head bolts you can use a block from a late 4000 or 4600 as well
201 engine is a direct fit that adds another 10 pto hp, turns the tractor into a 4610SU, compact package with plenty of power.

I have no first-hand knowledge, but all of my references say that the 3610 had a 175 ci engine if it was a gasser or a 192 if it was a diesel.

The only ag chassis model I can find listed with a 183 is the 4100. The only others are industrial models which are the 3550, 420 and 445.

That larger engine increased the stroke from 4.2 to 4.4 to get the extra cubes...different crank stroke length in the 4000 series.
