641 Shift lever

How do you remove the shift lever from a four speed transmission cover. I'd like to get it out and weld it up a bit to make it tighter.

You'll have to start by removing the shifter cover. Then remove the starter switch (nut on the bottom). when that comes out the switch support slides out. Then you have to lift the shifter spring up so you can remove the spring seat. once the spring seat is out, you can remove the starter safety plate. Then the shifter will come out. Getting the spring seat out is the biggest challenge. You need three hands.

Thank you. I do have the cover off and the button switch removed, but just couldn't figure out how to remove the shifter shaft from the
cover. I'll get right on growing a third hand so I can remove that retainer under the spring. Thank you for the information. I
