1954 Ford NAA. A work in progress...

Five years ago, my wife and I moved to 12 wooded acres in South East Ohio. Property needed (and still needs) a lot of cleaning up.

Began the hunt for an affordable tractor. Found a guy at work who was replacing his older tractor with new. He described it as a Jubilee that he bought 5 or 6 years prior.
It was currently sitting in his yard.

Originally bought the tractor late October of 2018.

Going to add pictures once I figure it out.

Place holder for more text if I can edit after the fact.

Hopefully this works..

He said "New battery, throw some gas in it and you'll be good to go"

Reasonable deal was reached.

And away we go!

Got her home and washed most of the grime off.

Then to see where we stood. Wife was not pleased it didn't run.

Started doing my research. Guy I bought it from obviously had no idea what condition this thing was in. Not his fault, really. I've known him for 20+ years. Just not mechanically inclined at all.

Started to get the motor freed up after about a week of adding MMO. (Had never used it before)
Went and bought appropriate fluids to start with a clean slate.

Was there any reason mechanically that it was parked, or was he just not using it? Hope you get the engine unstuck without issue. As far as the upset wife, remember its always easier to ask forgiveness than permission lol.

His wife told him to buy a Kubota with loader.

Tractor set out for 2 or 3 years.

This tale is back tracking to 2018.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. I have a '54 NAA too. Mine will start right up and runs sweet. Have you gotten anywhere with freeing up the engine? Are only relying on the starter? Have you tried rocking the rear wheels while in 4th gear KEY OFF? I've never had to try to free up a stuck engine, but from all I read on here, the key word is patience. You can also try ATF or a mixture of ATF and Asitone. Keep us informed though.

While gleaning information and reading this site, I bought a manual, tinkered, checked, and reread.

However, tractor was sitting outside under a tarp.

I did end up getting it running, although not reliably.

I had the starter rebuilt, generator rebuilt at a local shop.

I had it running fairly decent by winter/spring.

Sitting outside was not kind. Plan was to build a shop or garage, but saving took some time.

totally misunderstood, I thought it was still stuck. You got it looking darn good. A lot better than mine, although the P.O. told me that mine had run into an orchard tree at one time, so the sheet metal is a bit distorted and has an annoying buzz at times from the hood.

Thanks! I was pretty excited at the time!
However sitting outside took its toll..Spotty unreliable spark.

More reading on this forum. More head scratching.

According to the painted writing on the valve cover, the tractor was restored in '04 as a parade tractor by a local mom and pop shop close by.

The guy I bought it from just didn't know what he had.
Or a shed to store it.

But it happens.

So early this year I had finally saved enough to seriously consider having a shop built.

Found a couple old retired guys that ran equipment for something to do. Hired them to clear a spot big enough for the shop.

They cleared and leveled the pad in 8 hours! Money well spent!

The shop, and more importantly, dry storage is coming!

Sitting outside is not necessarily all that bad. some of mine stay inside though in climate controlled environment. The worst thing is moisture inside of them from condensation. Tarps can be vey bad. A friend had very serious damage done when he covered one in clear plastic for two months. He may just as well sprayed it with salt water daily. woven tarps will remove paint quickly if they can move.

So after 2ish years of random tinkering and never having all the issues solved, I've got the NAA in my shop!

After all this time, there are some things I needed to start over on. There was a slight sticking point on one of the cylinders. MMO goes back in the cylinders.

Redoing the wiring harness as I was never confident it was correct.

Walking through the 12v Conversion bit by bit assured that I had good spark, proper wiring, good timing and points, etc.

Looking forward to finally having a reliable, dry, dependable tool to use on the property!

Screwed that last pic up last night.

Pretty sure Coors Light was involved...
