I have a '68 5200 row crop tractor with a bad steering motor. The steering motor has had problems for years and the local dealer could not repair it on multiple attempts. Previously when the steering wheel was lifted straight up the front wheel turned hard left and the steering wheel spun. The steering would spin with enough force to bruise your forearm with the spinner knob. By pushing the steering wheel back down the wheels and steering wheel would return slowly to the straight position. The amount of vertical play was less than a sixteenth of an inch.
While plowing a few acres of land this last weekend I lost the ability to turn left unless I lift the steering wheel. When I do lift the steering wheel the front wheel turn to the left but the steering wheel no longer rotates.
The people I have talked with tell me the steering motor is not rebuild able and I have yet to find a replacement or retro fit part. Does anyone know of a solution or possible part location. A working tractor is the ultimate goal.
