Well I'm back........Did more research. The tractor is apparently a 1962 Ford light industrial. It was orig buff but is now red + gray.
Pulled shifter top plate off.... ugly oil. Top bar visiblle was seized, easily freed up.By not moving it was preventing the shifter from shifting in the right side position ...ie.. 1 st and 3rd gears. All good now the not so good...still won't locomote.Has a gear shifter on the left side of the trans. just in front of the clutch pedal.Has a loader and large backhoe. Any idea if it is a reversing trans ? It is within the trans housing not another add on trans. Also think I have a stuck valve.
Is this tractor worth fixing? Paid 1200 dollars for it.

That shifter on the left side of the bell housing is for an auxiliary transmission, most likely a Sherman since they were the most common. It could be a reverser or it could be a combo (step up & step down). Being a light industrial with a loader and backhoe makes it more likely to be a reverser. Have you tried moving that shifter? Both the combo and the reverser had a neutral position in the middle of their range of motion, so if it will move in both directions from where it is now would mean that it is probably in neutral. The auxillary transmiaaion sits between the clutch and the main transmission, so if it's in neutral then no power gets to the main trans.
