Ford ZF APL-325 front axle fluid

What fluid should I use in the front axle and hubs? I'm pretty sure I read in the IT manual to use 80-90w and that's what it's got in it. Because that's what I've been putting in it. Because it leeks. But I was thinking the rear axle runs in hydraulic fluid so IDK. Googled it and found a thing that said 134D witch from what I can find is hydraulic oil.

So if anyone has any info I would much appreciate it. Thanks.

You don't say what model tractor this is on, but the rear axle of your tractor is most likely to also be the sump for the 3 point hydraulic fluid, as well as to have both internal wet brakes and the PTO clutch pack, which is also wet, so that rear end needs something that is made for use with wet brakes and clutches.

I'm not familiar with that axle, but if it doesn't have internal wet brakes then gear oil should work fine but you can also use a good UTF as that has Extreme Pressure (EP) additives that allow the thin oil to cling to the mating surfaces of gears which have high pressures between them that would squeeze out regular hydraulic oil that doesn't have the EP additives. If it has wet brakes then you should use a good UTF that is made for use with wet brakes.

I would use what the manual calls for. And I would fix the leaks before total failure happens.

Since you dont give us the specific tractor model, I'm guessing a 10 series...

front wheel drive differential casting and front hubs

Ford M2C104-A
SAE 90 mechanical gear oil with EP additive and friction modifier.

or... m2c158a or m2c105a or m2c94a as taken in order of preference from the operators manual for a series II tractor.

For Transmission/rear axle M2c86b hydraulic fluid
or m2c159a/b or m2c134b/c in order of preference from owners manual.

again, taken from a series II 10 series operators manual. Your tractor may differ.

Yes it's a 7710 didn't think the model tractor would matter because it came out with different model front axles. I'm fixing the leeks and couldn't remember if we were putting 80-90w in it because of the leeks or if it was what it took.

Thanks for your help..

I've got a TW with a ZF axles and the book does list 134B/C as an option after the other oils Sotxbill listed, but to be honest
I'm more comfortable with the 80/90 gear oil in there. I think they only put 134 on the list to keep it simple for some people.
