Ford 1500 fuel filter too long

Hello. Been going through the new to me 1500 changing fluids. Wix oil 51512 and I got a wix 33262 for the fuel. Wix website cross references the sba number to that. When I took the old one off I saw it was crushed down. Put the new one on and had to crush it down to get the cup screwed on. Wix has it listed at 2.27" long. Seems like it is a quarter inch too long. Filter has a closed bottom and the cup/bowl has a round part in the bottom that sticks up. Just wondering what the deal is and what is the right filter. Thanks.

I couldn't find anything on the hydraulic filter except that it is cleanable. Will probably change the hydraulic fluid tomorrow. Also got a Kat 11615 block heater today. I assume it goes in on the left side at the freeze plug with the element sticking straight up at the 12 o'clock position.

Got the new glow plug indicator wire put in. Now waiting on the glow plugs to come in sometime this month. Changed oil in the injection pump and it was low. Cleaned the air cleaner and it was full of sludge.

Something appears to be mixed up. Did you get the SBA filter number you crossed off the old filter? If you did and the old one was crushed it would stand to reason a new one from a good cross reference would crush as well. Your length for the 33262 doesn't match what I find.

SBA360720130 from the 1500 parts book crosses to Wix 33264 using the on line WIX site. Here is what I see in the WIX catalog there. The 33262 is raised at the open end the 33264 is flat. Closed ends appear to be the same.

33264: Height 2.27", 1.14" OD, 0.515 center opening, one end

33262: Height 2.717", 1.378" OD, 0.429 center opening, one end

Thanks. Let me correct what I wrote. I bot the Wix 33264 not the 33262. I didn't know the old one was crushed till I took it out because of the dark color and crud on the plastic bowl.

I got an original parts manual that I ordered. At section 09A03 on page 110 it covers the fuel tank and fuel filter for the 1500 and 1700. No. 20 on the list is the filter element and that number is SBA360720020. On the wix site that crosses to the 33264 which is too long. I'm not sure where you are getting the SBA360720130 number unless there is a revision on the number. However that still gets us to the same number on the wix site. A model search on the wix site for various models including the 1500 comes up with the 33264.

The 33264 is the 2.27" long per wix. I figure it takes a filter about 2" long or so. I will measure the old one later but they look the same when I changed them. The only other thing I can think of is someone changed the bowl and put a shorter one on if there is one. I assume the raised section at the bottom of the bowl is so crud can collect there. I can double check to make sure the hole on the filter is fitting all the up into the nozzle sticking down but I think it did or else the hole wasn't big enough to slide up all the way. I also see that the catalog lists No. 17 which is the whole cup assembly with filter and o-rings which is SBA360700031. Guess I can't rule out that a prior owner bot the whole assembly and got the wrong one.

According to the wix filter lookup, your number crosses to both Ford and Case/NewHolland. I can check with the dealers the next time I get down there. We have a separate dealer for Ford from the CaseIH New Holland dealer.

Bottom line is that it runs ok but I would like to get it right.

The number SBA360720130 is the number in the on line parts book for the 1500 filter element. It is possible there has been a number change since your hard copy was printed. The the indent in the bottom of the filer should fit over the raised area in the bottom of the bowl. Yes, check to see that an O-ring/seal or part of an old filter isn't stuck on the nozzle in the top of the housing, or bottom of the bowl, preventing a new filter from sliding completely up, or being pushed too high. I have seen both things happen before on others, after someone forced a wrong filter into a housing.

Thanks. You might be on to something there. I did feel an oring or something on the nozzle down low but thought it was meant to be there. Will check it later this afternoon.

I checked it and there is nothing on the center column that would restrict the filter. I pushed it up and it shoulder up. I don't know what the deal is. I might look at Wix and see what they offer in a shorter filter. Thanks.
