SOS testing

A 1750 motor with a 2-1 reduction will get you 875 rpm
They operated those transmission in 601 Ford with 32 hp
Rule of thumb is 1 electric motor hp equals 2 gas or diesel engine hp so that would be equal to a 16 hp electric motor.
It'll take some power to turn the rotating mass inside the trans but one might be able to run it with a 5 hp electric motor but I'd feel better with a 7 1/2 or 10.
I doubt a 601 at 800 rpm idle makes more than 20 hp

I tested one years ago using a large drill motor that was used for lifting silo unloaders for filling. I cant remember if it was a 5/8 or 3/4 chuck. Been many years, sorry. Al

I have no idea what you are trying to do but if 5 hp will work how about a mower/roto tiller engine geared down or a tractor pto if you can hook it up. Surely you don't need the full hp of the tractor to test it at 840 rpm. Ignore this post if it isn't relevant.
