Steering wheel didn't want to come off without a fight. I know that Ultradog has that slick two-piece pipe arrangement that works really nice. I don't have ready access to a band saw, so I put a puller and bearing splitter on it. Worked great.

Hello Bern, I left a message for you on "Tractor" talk! PLEASE I you can help me I'd so appreciated for your help! Jim in N.M. If you want please send it to my Email address above Thank you in advance !!

I put a new steering wheel on my Ford 5000. I busted all the covering off around the center. Put the puller on it and it would not budge! So I took the torch to the center collar of the steering wheel. I bet I didn't have the torch on it more than 30 seconds and it popped right off. Of course you could not do it that way if you wanted to just remove and reinstall the steering wheel. My old steering wheel was shot so I didn't care.

Not Bern but I replied in tractor talk.

Looks like a better than Harbor Fright quality puller you have there. Who makes it?
Steering wheel needs to come off to pull the cowel?
What does the tractor need?

The only reason I do not use a bearing splitter is I did not think of it... I made a puller out of a 8N steering wheel it worked great so good it left home... I made this one I spec it will never leave seeing as it cost $1500 no one can afford the deposit on it...

That's a Proto puller and bearing spreader.

Yes, the steering wheel needs to come off to remove the cowl. If you can get the cowl off with the wheel on, I'd sure like to see video of that!

Tractor came to me with the steering box leaking so badly the reservoir had to be filled several times daily. Turns out the flare on the pressure line at the box was cracked. I cut it off and re-flared it. The box was leaking elsewhere as well, mostly at that piston locating peg in the main housing at the very bottom of the bore. Box had to come apart completely to get that one.
