961 Ford Diesel

I’m not sure what to do with the 961 Diesel I bought. When I bought the tractor the previous owner had taken the hood, muffler, fuel tank and injector lines off. It sat for awhile before I bought it,Not being able to ask why I assumed he was removing injection pump. After removing the pump and injectors im worried that the pump may not be the problem. I’ve read on YTM that the crankshaft was bad about breaking. Any suggestions about other problems with this engine? Not wanting to scrap it but don’t want to spent $ pump and then start on engine.

Does it turn over? If not, remove the oilpan and see how many pieces the crankshaft is in! If your tractor is an early 961 it probably doesnt have the internal counter balancer and they were usually even more prone to breakage than the later versions that had this band aid.

Newly forged cranks are 800.oo+ -dont ask me how I know...

This was a ran when parked diesel that a friend picked up. when opened up this is what the crank looked like.
