many Thx

Here is a diagram of the oiling system from the Ford tractor shop manual. Have you pulled the oil line from the back of the oil pressure gauge to verify there is no oil coming out of the line? If you have zero pressure showing at the guage, either the oil pump is not pumping, the pickup tube from the oil pump is damaged, or the guage is not working. If the oil pump is not pumping, the hex shaft below the distributor may have broken. Are you in a cold winter climate?

Thank you so much Mitchford I have been looking for this diagram for a while. I think I have tried everything but. I'll run the whole story by you. Lost oil pressure one day using my trip loader, engine started knocking on and off I was close to my workshop so got her in, took off oil pressure gauge started it up no oil! bought new oil gauge just in case tested new one with air pressure worked good , took out distributor and used the cut off screwdriver trick to turn oil pump. again no oil coming out of oil gauge line , took off line no oil at union, took off oil filter no oil coming out of small hole that supplies oil filter in fact only oil I am seeing is coming up the oil pump drive shaft towards me enough to have oil hit my electric drill! I figured that the relief valve was stuck or bad decided to replace the entire pump. dropped pan fitted new pump made sure all pick up and the other supply line was clear long story short same deal. oil shooting up shaft!? put in distributor tried turning over with starter no oil again at filter or oil pressure gauge line. took out relief valve spring on new pump and jammed it shut using a cut down bolt same deal. the oil pump pumps oil flows 2 ways through oil pump housing to the r/h side of the block and out the bottom into a tube that goes to the left side of the block as I have removed this tube from the block and spun the oil pump i know oil is being supplied out the end of this tube as far as the block. so not knowing which way was the main oil supply to the filter was I was at a loss to where to start. but thanks to your diagram I believe that there is a blockage in the block between the oil pump bottom supply tube and the oil filter. I hope ?? This thing has been driving me crazy for a month now. I think I have covered every avenue. I have worked on motors of all sorts all my life and I'm well aware that some one who is not as frustrated as I am can sometimes point out the obvious that I'm missing happened to me many times.so please send everyone send in your thoughts. If anything my wife will be able to sleep better as she says I've been keeping her awake at night mumbling something about an oil pump. Bye the way mitchford what manual did that pic come from so I can get one. many thx

This is the service manual the oil passage photo came from. Are the two oil tubes damaged in any way on the pickup for the oil pump? If it is cracked it will suck air instead of oil.

I bought a junker 4000 4 cyl non-running and seller said no oil pressure. I hoped for a failed guage. Problem was a blown rear main seal and bearing.

not that I can see I checked them at one point with air pressure but I'm 99% sure thanks to the diagram you sent that I have a blockage in the block between the oil filter and the feed pipe that comes out of the oil filter because I am not getting oil to the oil filter I blew some air backwards and a bunch of black sludge came out of the pipe end. still no oil at filter though. gona try again later. Thx for you and everyone else who replied for your suggestions.

Thx Texasmark I have pulled all the main bearing caps and big end caps one at a time replacing it before i moved to the next one and incredibly all looks well. I think I have a blockage in the block from old oil sludge build up now that i have a oil flow diagram from Mitchford. I do thank you for your reply.

Just a thought....drain holes in the head clogged with carbon/non detergent oil byproducts/dirt is an area to check. Had that problem years ago when ND oil was the norm....not on a tractor but on oil drain holes clogging when the designer made them too small and/or in the wrong location......head gasket holes also might be a place to look since some gaskets are universal and holes in the block are much larger than holes in some gaskets for certain ports.

Then I have seen oil pump drive shaft snapped, said to be caused by too high oil pressure....as you know these machines run high oil pressure.....40-60# on all my 4 cyl engines with oil press gauge and on my 3910 3 cyl with a gauge added to the oil pump.
