I bought a ford 860 with a front end loader. The loader works fine but the three point doesn't work at all.

eparate pump, etc.

I am using the slandered pump mounted on the right rear of the engine is there some way I should be switching from the front loader to the three point.

The pump on the side of the engine powers the 3 point hydraulics. Most Ford loaders have their own separate pump that is located on the front of the tractor and is powered by a shaft from the crankshaft pulley. Some folks install loaders that are powered off of the 3 point hydraulics, but they are much slower as the 3 point pump is only about 4 to 4.5 gpm flow rate while most front mounted loader pumps are at least 12 or 14 gpm. If you have lines going from the 3 point hydraulic top cover to your loader then it might be one of a few different configurations. It sounds like you might have a diverter valve mounted on the top of the top cover that diverts the flow from the 3 point system to the loader. Those types of diverter valves generally have a push-pull knob, and when it is pulled out it powers the loader and when it is pushed in it powers the 3 point system.

the control for my loader is is mounted on the top of the three point hydraulic cover but there is no diverter valve. There is no pump on the front of the engine. Can it work this way or does there have to be a way to shut off the hydraulics for the loader for the the three point to work?

OK, it sounds like the loader is being driven directly by a remote valve, or a dual remote valve. Are there two separate handles, one for lifting the arms and one for curling the bucket? In either case, if the hydraulics work for the loader then there is something wrong with the 3 point system, possibly the unloader valve is stuck open, or the internal linkage from the control handle to the control valve is not connected or not adjusted properly.

(quoted from post at 15:39:43 01/03/21) Is there a easy way to check either of those things

You could pull the round inspection cover on the left side where the PTO handle is located and look in with a flishlight while you move the 3 point control handle up and down to check that th elinkage is connected and moving the control valve. You can also see if there is ay fluid dumping out of the top cover assembly. Depending on where oil is coming from it might be the unloader valve or a leak in another location. Whatever the cause of the problem, the way to fix any of the will be to pull the top cover and while you have it off I would recommend a full R&R and replace all of the seals and o-rings as well as make all of the documented adjustments in the service manual.

Sorry it has been awhile. these are the pictures of the control plate mounted on my tractor. If I take out the pipe plug you can see in the first picture and run a hydraulic line to it would that send fluid to my three point hitch?
