Hi, I got a 1956 Ford 800 from my uncle and I'm having a problem with the PTO disengaging. I know it used to work before when I use to mow his field. But not it's not wanting to work. So, now I just disconnect anything that I have hooked up. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Welcome to the Ford board.
A couple of questions for you.
Does the pto handle move back and forth as
it should or is it stuck or stiff to move?
The 800 Series came with 2 PTO options.
They had transmission type and Live type.
We would need to know which type you have
to advise you properly.
However, the first (and easiest) thing to
check on both types is your clutch
adjustment.
Have you tried adjusting it?

The PTO hand is stuck in the on/engaged position. It will move just a little bit and that's it.
I'm not sure what type of PTO it is. How would I find out that?
And I haven't tried to adjust the clutch either.

If the handle won't move even with the engine off then the splines are most likely twisted on the end of the shaft where it engages the coupling collar. There is a slight chance that the internal linkage for the handle to the collar is out of place and jammed up, but most of the time when things are out of place the handle moves freely without actually doing anything. Pull the round cover that has the PTO handle on it and see if you can get the collar to slide. If it won't then the splines are twisted.

Ok thank you. I'll give that a try and see what happens. If they happen to be twisted, is it hard to change? Are there any videos. Maybe on YouTube or something that you know of?
