Identifying 801 Powermaster

I have some conflicting information. I will start with the things I know. Or think I know. We recently purchased an 801 Powermaster Ford tractor. I located the numbers stamped on the side. They are 820<> 152284<> . With this information in hand it also is a 5 speed, doesn’t have a separate pto, and I will thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Going by the model designation stamping and that hood emblem, it is a "Hundred" series tractor, ('55-57), not an "01" (1958-'62) model.

An 820 originally would be a stripped down 1956-'57 tractor with a 4 speed, no PTO or three point hitch. I can see a 5 speed style shifter and the ball sockets of lift arms peeking out from your rear tires, so your tractor is probably an amalgamation of a few tractors rolled into one.

The odd thing is that the model number (820) is stamped into the flat spot on the bell housing, which is part of the transmission case, so it has a 5 speed transmission, but the transmission itself was stamped with a model number for a tractor that should have a 4 speed transmission. My guess is that it was originally an 820 and the transmission was replaced at some pint and whoever replaced it stamped the original model number into the new transmission without knowing, or not caring, that it didn't make sense.

The hood and emblem suggest a 'hundred' series, but the rear fenders are from a XX1 -

Shows lots of evidence of being a 'mutt' (not an insult), with a later transmission/rear end and an earlier engine. A more useful tractor than a 820.

Yes, sorry I don’t currently have better pictures. You guys on this forum are the best. I really appreciate your kindness to share your knowledge.

Actually the model number of the 101 series denoted the standard equipment of that particular tractor. The 821 standard was like the 820 mentioned, however options could be added, i/e, you could add pto, hydraulic lift or other non standard items. It was often practical to add one optional item but if you needed more it would make more sense to choose a different model.

(quoted from post at 13:27:31 01/01/21) Serial number "152284" would make the tractor a 1961 model, "820"s were built in 1956-57.

Thye re-used serial numbers from one series to the next back then. The hundred series serial numbers started with 1 and went up to some unspecified high number above 116368 in 1957, but given the ranges for previous years it is likely that they got at least close to 152284 before they finished production. Then they restarted at s/n 1001 when they released the '01 series so all but numbers 1 through 1000 were common to both series up to the point where one series had higher numbers than the other. So 152284 could be a 1957 hundred series tractor or a 1961 '01 series tractor. Given that the model number (820) is a hundred series model, I would say that it is a safer bet to say that it is a 1957 hundred series.
