8000 hydraulic pump

Put everything back together on my 8000 and I can’t get the new
pump to pump any oil. Took lines off and started the tractor and got
nothing but a little air pressure, not sure if there’s a way to bleed
these pumps or not. Pto doesn’t work either

Unless the pump was dry when you installed it, it should have primed itself right away. I suspect that you missed the inlet pipe when you shoved the pump and cover assembly back in the hole. I saw something similar happen once on an 8600.

There are two ways you could prove my theory without pulling it back apart: 1) Going in through the back PTO opening with a borescope, or 2) overfilling the rear axle by about 10 gallons or so. If it starts pumping then, and stops pumping once you drop the oil level back down to normal, you've lost your suction pipe seal.

I oiled the pump before I put it in but i didn’t completely fill it, I figured it would all spill out while it was trying to put the thing together, I’m hoping I didn’t miss the pickup tube because it was a pain to put back together.

If you oiled the pump, it's primed. It about has to be that pipe. Either that or the pump is not turning because you forgot the key on the drive shaft. Let us know what you find.

I suspect I missed the pickup tube. My manual says that the pump can be put on the intake tube by itself and then you can bolt the side cover back on and then bolt the pump to the side cover. I don’t have a bore scope unfortunately, it would be nice to confirm that I missed the intake tube because I don’t have another 10 gallons of hydraulic fluid left in my barrel. I plan on tearing it apart later today, we will see what happens I guess.

I pulled the pump out and found that the pickup tube was twisted to the side, I assume that happened when I was bolting it all together. I straightened it out and bolted it all back together again and now I have strong hydraulics and a functional pto again.
