I just put one in a FE block I did not use the rubber side seals YUK!!! I used the old paper wedge seals : ) they were in great shape and stuck well the the cap. I am cleaning up and what do I do with the rubber side seals. I went to youtube and googled FE rear main seal. First one "WHUTS THIS" its interesting BTW I liked the way he sealed the cap to block wink wink...

When I get time I am gonna look at some more maybe I will find a home run. I read on my instructions no sealer on the end of the seal one guy says they expand with oil I guess I never read the instructions. : (

More on the rear seal. Ford used this set up on quite a few engines your Tractor is the same deal. On the rubber side seals I did use them once on one of my engines it was a bear to get them in I ended up applying RTV to them, got them in so far so good.

In this post it goes into detail on how to use them and offers some tips on how to inject RTV if you go with Victor Reinz RTV side seal deal. Back in the day with the paper side seals I coated them with sealer life was good I would like to know what happen to them are they the Rawhide mentioned in the article.

Thanks for the heads up, just about a day from installing the rear seal

Great info! Thanks for posting that. I'll be doing the rear main on my 841 as soon as the post office gets their *stuff* together and delivers my Bead and Seal (as you recommended). I hate waiting for parts.
