Anyone ever try the PTO feathering spool in the valve body, using an extra one in place of the inching pedal spool? I'm tempted to see if that would help make for
smoother starts and safer backing to hitch implements.

I still question why some(6000) were either in, or out. No feather to them. But my little 64 4000 is smooth as ever. Maybe a touch jumpier than a standard clutch, but not by much. Smoother than a 801 with the pedal set for live pto. Those the pedal was just to high and hard to do a smooth job. Were the part numbers for the valve Assembly the same for the 6000 as lets say a 2000? Something had to be different. Al

My early 4000 is about the same as the three 6000 tractors far as inching control acts. The tractor drive 6000 with the 4000 row crop rear end I wish was smoother as the first reverse speed is faster than normal. May have to try the valve swap and see what happens, always thought it strange the service manual shows the PTO valve has feathered control, but inching pedal does not.

You must have a different manual than I do...

Bingo.

It is not a clutch pedal. It is a valve control much like your FEL control. Yank the FEL control wide open and things happen quickly.

Idle the tractor completely and they back up to an implement just fine. My early 4000 SOS backs up slower than an 8n.
