Guys, what's a good initial starting point you use for the adjustments on this carb? It runs decent but not really as smooth as I think it could. I tried the initial start points in the service manual and still need to move the choke to almost 1/2 to smooth it out. I tried 1 to 1 1/4 out on the main and 1 out on the idle air. Wonder if maybe the previous owner missed something when he recently rebuilt it. Thanks.

I have a better knowledge in small engine carbs so I’m not sure if this
will work but what I usually do is when the motor is at an idle turn the
idle screw in till it starts to sputter and then back it off until the motor
runs smooth again. Then for the main run the tractor at full throttle
and adjust the main screw the same way. Not sure if this applies to
larger gas motors or not, I don’t see why it wouldn’t. If you try it let
me know how it works out

There are no textbook adjustments as each engine is different.

That said, 1 1/4-1 1/2 turns out is probably as good as any starting point for the power valve.

Determine if the idle mixture screw is even functional by turning it in/out at idle. Most idle screws are non functional due to air leakage around the throttle shaft. If non functional, bottom it out and leave
it there. If functional, adjust for best idle.
