Ignition problem on a 72'' 3400

Replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires and tractor ran fine for weeks the last week backfired and quit. Thought the coil might have crapped out so replaced that and still wouldn't start so bought a tester for plug wires and found out nothing going to plugs. Took off the cap to find the rotor spinning freely. Pushed it back on put it all back together and started right up. Shut it off to neaten up some of the wiring and won't start. My guess rotor popped off... am I missing something ?

Yes, you are missing the little spring clip that goes under the rotor and holds it pointing in the right direction.
