1630 NH too short

Just rebuilt the J843 engine for a NH 1630 4x4 tractor. Putting the engine back in I couldn't align the 16 holes in the side frame with the 16 holes in the side of the block. The engine was tight to the bell housing but the front axle and side frame wouldn't go forward far enough to install the 16 mounting bolts. It lacked about 1/2 of the hole to allow the bolts to go in. I went under the tractor and removed the 4 bolts from the support plate that is the rear mount for the stabilizer bar. The stabilizer bar is the "rod" that keeps the front axle from moving back and forth. Once the stabilizer was detached at the rear end of the rod, the 16 engine mounting bolts were easily screwed into the block as they were supposed to. My problem now is I can't move the stabilizer bar back enough to install the 4 bolts in to the support plate. Why is the front axle about 1/4"-1/2" too far forward? How do I move it back? thank you, gregjo1948

How cold is it where the tractor is located? It could be that the side frame is made of a different metal and shrinks more when cold than the engine and trans castings. Do you have a heated building you can park it in for a few days?

That's an odd one. Are you using the same block? If you are, something is causing an obstruction somewhere. Those holes did not move by themselves.

That plate is above the bell housing unless you're referring to the plate that the starter nose goes thru. I didn't forget either of them. It was a good thought though. thanks, gregjo1948

It is a super-steer axle. Would you believe the support plate, at the rear end of the stabilizer bar, is not bored in the center and it would make up the 1/4" I need by rotating it 180 degrees. The problem with that is the 4 holes bored in it to secure it to the machine are bored a different distance apart so it can't be mounted spun around .180 I finally got the 1/4"I needed by pounding prying and a lot of swearing. I still don't really know why it didn't just bolt right back together. Thanks for your reply, gregjo1948

Same block but can't find anything holding it. I did finally get it together but still don't know why it didn't just pop back together to begin with.
