Gas gauge 12v conversion

I'm tidying up a gas 961. It's been converted to 12v and the gas gauge, while operable, just pegs at 'full', I assume due to the voltage.

What's the workaround for getting it operable? A diesel sending unit? Would a ballast resister work?

Thanks
David

Look on some old Ford vehicle restoration parts sites, there's tiny little electronic voltage regulators available that reduce the "12 Volt" battery voltage to the gauges and they aren't real expensive.

Or you can whip up your own with a 7805 IC voltage regulator and a few other parts.

If I recall correctly, when I converted my 641 to 12v, I just used a later diesel model level sender (which was already for 12v). Piece of cake.
