4cyl 192D Turbo?

My trencher has a 192D It's in the same family as the 172, 144 engines. My question is did Ford ever make one of these with a turbo? My trencher works hard and blows black smoke like crazy and I'd like to add a turbo to clean it up some.

You could add one, but you would probably drive over the crankshaft. Some 172 diesels broke cranks anyway as engine does not have five main bearings, only three.

Never heard of a 4 cylnder 192 CI diesel. Are you certain that it's not a 172?

In any event, the early Ford 172 diesels are known to break crankshafts, balancer or otherwise, so increasing HP would not be advised.

Definitely a 192 they are only used as a power unit. Not looking for more power just cleaner exhaust - more fuel efficientcy. Sounds like I'll just get the pump rebuilt, maybe that will clean it up some. It needs resealed at the minimum anyway, putting fuel in the oil. Might be spring before I get to it since I broke the diff in the Dana44 rearend last time out.

I had an old farmer friend that had a 861. It was his primary tractor. He pulled a silage chopper, had a mounted picker, side arm loader , a combine and pulled a round bailer with it. The last time the engine was rebuilt, I rebuilt it at 30,000 hours, It had broken 3 crankshafts in it's life and never damaged the block. The farmer has passed away but as far as I know the tractor is still running.

I think freshening up the engine and injection system would do more to clean it up, someone may have turned the pump up in the past too as many people do.

Interesting.

I have a very low hour 192 NG (high compression) power unit that I have converted to gasoline but was unaware that 4 cylinder 192 diesel engines were made and have not seen any.
