hydraulic pump ford 3000

Recently purchased ford 3000. 3 point hydraulics not working and has been used to pull things on the farm only for two years. Drained oil from differential
filled with correct fluid. 3 point works barely. We think the hydraulic pump needs replacement or repair. Have a tisco repair kit. Ford New Holland sells an
after market pump for $485. Have never worked on one of these hydraulic pumps. Many springs, balls, plus other parts.
Wanted to know what others have done: Bought an aftermarket pump or tried to rebuild the pump after removal from the tractor. Ford New Holland does not try to
rebuild the pumps We did bleed the pump still 3 point does not work correctly
Thanks
Chris
Have worked and repaired the hydraulic assembly under the cover on a ford 8N. Possibly the hydaulic cylinder needs repair

Three cyl. 3000 or four? Are you sure you got all the air out? Before you dive into a rebuild take the 3/8 hex socket plug out. Get a hose barb and length of clear plastic tubing to reach the fill port on the rear end and let it run a while and watch for bubbles. You may not see them when it's running but will if you shut it off. It could also be in the linkage, valve or cylinder. Pumps aren't hard to rebuild but don't just assume it's the pump. I put a Tisco kit in mine but had to adjust the ball cages with pliers so the balls were free to move.

Mike,

Engine is a 3 cylinder diesel. Excellent about removing bleed plug use a hose barb, length of plastic flexixble tubing , let tractor run and drain through fill plug and check to see if air bubbles stop. Will try it. Thanks

The 3000 name was new in 1965 when the 3 cylinder tractors came out. There never was a 4 cylinder 3000.

With that being said, the hydraulic pump would be one of the last things I would suspect when the 3 point lift isn't working. Get a service manual and go though all of the troubleshooting steps. Since you've done a top cover repair on an 8N in the past it won't be foreign to you to pull the top cover on the 3000 and check everything out under there first.

Sean,

Thanks for the advice. We will remove the top cover and check out the piston and other parts under the cover
