Ford 8730 Power Shift Questions, Opinions, Etc

I need input on the above tractor. It is a mfwd. I've never owned a power shift before. How reliable are they? Are parts still available? I know this tractor has the 401 and cavitation is possible. I have
experience with that. I plan on putting this tractor on a round baler. Thanks in advance!

The trans itself it pretty stout. The biggest potential issue down the road is with wiring, connectors, sensors, etc. And of course the resultant downtime. It might decide to work fine one day, and not at all the next. This is far less likely with a crashbox.

I can't speak for specific parts availability, other than to say that CNH has never been good about supporting older machines.

I had an 8240 with the 16x16 power shift. I had to get it rebuilt at 6000 hours due to leaking clutch pack seals.

We own an 8730 powershift with front wheel assist and I love that tractor a lot, been driving it since I was 11 and I’m 18 now so I know quite a bit about it. Only somewhat major problem that we’ve had in the past 7 years of owning it is the pto brake wearing out, which is pretty common on fords. So far we haven’t had any troubles finding parts for it either. Pulls really nice, has a little bit of a whine in 9th when pulling the cultivator and rolling basket but I’ve dealt with it. Overall a really good tractor so I’d recommend getting it if it looks taken care of. Ours just turned over 8000 hours in the spring and still has plenty of life left. I’ll try to attach a picture
