7700 hydraulic pump

Just curious for any advise. I am going to replace the
hydraulic pump on my 7700 this winter. I assume the housing
is worn in mine by the symptoms. Just by a google search it
seems like there are a lot of aftermarket options with prices
ranging from around $250 to $750. Just curious if anyone has
a preferred brand or good or bad stories.

I'm generally a big believer in "you get what you pay for", and would be a little leery of the $250 option. That said, I have no personal first-hand experience with any of the aftermarket options.

What type diagnostics did you perform to determine your tractors hyd pump is at fault?

Over the yrs I've heard/read of many hyd pumps being replaced only to determine replaced hyd pump wasn't the problem.

After the oil warms up the hydraulics will not lift on the 3pt or the remotes unless the throttle is wide open. Even then it seems to struggle. Maybe I’m missing something but the pump is the only logical answer. I want to change the fluid and I don’t want to drain it twice so I might as well do the pump at the same time.

Are scv control levers centered in neutral position. Most hyd system 3 pt hyd circuits have relief valves that could fail. I'm not stating hyd pump isn't at fault but there are other possibilities for failure besides the pump. Does you tractor have option of Dual-power?

Could very well be a blown o-ring(s) on the pressure supply tube between the rear axle housing and the lift cover. Unfortunately, on a 7700, this will not be easy to access. However, as has already been said, you could put a brand new pump in it and end up with the exact same problem.

One thing you could do is remove the pump and disassemble it before you order a new one. If the hydraulics are really as weak as you describe, you should find major wear inside of there if indeed the problem is the pump. My bets are on the pressure tube o-rings, however.

Thanks bern and Jim I probably will tear it apart before I order anything because about all I use this tractor for it a little bush hogging and grader box work and since it has no cab I try to avoid using it in the winter.

You're welcome.
I've lost count the number of times in the last 50 yrs I've heard/read the following statement.

"I replaced my hyd pump with a hew pump but hyd's still won't operate correctly"

Yes everything is in neutral and didn’t all the 7700’s have dual power? No symptoms start until 30 minutes to an hour from using it. Really seems like after the oil warms up

Lack of hydraulic capability can be either lack of pump or lack of containment, as in housing, O-ring, or seal wear. At around 6000 hours my 8240 needed both a new hydraulic pump and transmission rebuild. The pump had housing wear and the transmission had worn clutch pack seals.
