FORD 5000 PTO

I have a Ford 5000 diesel flat deck tractor. I only use it on a Mott hammer knife finish mower. When I engage the PTO it kind of spools up to speed. Some of my tractors it seems the PTO goes right to full PTO speed real quick. The 5000 engages and the PTO picks up to speed a little slower...Is this normal????

Ours did that when we bought it used. Turned out the hydraulic pump was bad, or at least the portion that drives the pto. Though I understand that sometimes the hose/piping from the pump to the pto control may leak.

A 5000 PTO is not what I would consider to be a "quick engager" compared to other colors, or for that matter, even other Fords. The pump that supplies the pressure for the clutch pack is quite small.

As long as it doesn't slip, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're still losing sleep over it, a pressure test should help ease your mind.
