Looking for the proper freeze plug

I have a ford 1700 with a freeze plug the previous owner decided to silicon around.
It finally popped and now I need one...
Looking at the website below, I need freeze plug #4
However, when you look at the list on the right, it's not listed.

I measured the plug after I got it out and it comes to 2.262" or 55.455mm

Does anyone know exactly what size I need here? I use this tractor daily and I need to get it up and running again as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance!

I can't help you with the actual size needed, however I can say that soft plugs are categorized by the bore diameter, and not
the diameter of the plug itself. For example, I just bought some soft plugs for a SB Chevy. The plugs say right on them, "1-
5/8", and the bores in the block measure exactly 1.625". However, the plugs themselves measure 1.640" OD.

If you measure the bore diameter accurately to within a few thousandths of an inch, most good auto parts stores should be able
to hook you up.

That's a good point and it makes sense too because that would mean I need a 2-1/4" freeze plug

Thanks! I'll double check the bore tomorrow.

The freeze plug that you're looking for is listed on Messick's website. Here's a link to the parts list for your tractor:

New Holland: New Holland 1700 - 2 CYL COMPACT TRACTOR(01/79 - 12/82) Parts Diagrams

They show number 4 on the list as part number SBA064100055 then they show 4.1 on the list which is the same part with a part number of 47748689 and it says that it replaces #SBA064100055. Price is listed at $21.20. I hope this info helps!

(quoted from post at 06:37:30 12/08/20) Measure carefully. I wouldn't bet on the fact that a Japanese engine uses standard size plugs.

That is another great point! Surprised I didn't think of that myself.
The more I look at it it's not a typical freeze plug either. It's a flat plate. It is not an open circle behind this plug.
I'll gladly pay that $21 to have the proper part

Thank you everyone!

Thank you for that Amazon link!

Now to get to that plug easily I should probably remove the fuel injector. Is that an easy task to put back on? Will I mess up timing or anything like that? I've never fooled with an injector before but as I recall if it gets rotated or something it can foul up timing?

That Amazon link shows the plug as being 45mm, not 55mm. I don't think I'd run out and buy that.

You don't need to remove a fuel injector to replace a soft plug in the block. An injection line, maybe, but not an injector. You won't hurt or change anything by removing a line. Just keep everything clean.
