1959 Ford Powermaster 851

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum. My question is concerning the 3 point hitch. Does it work strictly off of the clutch like my 8n or are they driven by something else.
Thanks for any replies.

Any time the engine is running the 3 point should work. The hydraulic pump is "that round thing" just ahead and below the battery on he right side of the
tractor, bolted to the engine

Yes, commonly needed parts for your tractor are readily available.

Of course, as is the case with any 60+ year old tractor, many parts are no longer available.

Most parts (engine, steering, hydraulics, etc.) are common for all 800 and 801 models. The 851 is a model in the 801 series. The 5 in the middle means that it has a speed transmission and non-live PTO. They also share some parts with the later 4 cylinder 4000 series as well as the 600/601 and 4 cylinder 2000 series. So depending on which part you are looking for, if the part is no longer available new or after market, you have a wider range of models to search for in salvage yards.

Well everyone I made the deal and bought the tractor.
Thanks for all the information.
I do need some tips to try and get the Proof-Meter working again so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Proofmeter is cable driven off the hydraulic pump.
You could be missing the insert for the pump, have a broken
cable, or a bad proofmeter. All are readily available from our hosts.

As far as posting pictures, it can't be too large for one thing.
After that, instructions vary a bit depending on whether you're
using the classic view or the modern view of the forum.
For the modern view, just click the Choose Files button and select
the picture you want to upload and wait for it to upload.

Ok, thank you. I'll check the cable and see what shape it's in.

Also has anyone run one of these with a bucket. Everything works I just feel the bucket arms lift slower than they should. The bucket curls fine though. I'm not sure if there maybe a problem with the arm control lever or if the pump may need a rebuild/replace.

Try swapping the hoses at the control valve so the curl handle operates the lift cylinders and vice-versa. Then see if the slowness problem stays with the lift or moves to the curl. If it stays with the lift then the cylinders are likely leaking internally some. If it moves to the curl then the internal leak is in the control valve. That's all based on no visible external leaks.
