WF or NF on 981 or early 4000 row crop

Those of you that have run both, do you like the wide front or narrow front on the early Ford row crops? Seems like they would be a little more awkward, take more room to turn around. I have a narrow front now but a good wide front setting in the shed waiting for a tractor. I use this 4000 on a 7 finish mower and I have a blade on it now and may move a little snow with it. I was fortunate to buy this one with a front weight box, full of weights. I think its in the way for the wide front so it would come off the tractor.

I like the narrow front for maneuverability and turning radius.
They steer easier too. Especially if you don't have power steering.
In addition to the already mentioned cultivating and raking, they
made making corners while mowing hay with a sickle mower a breeze!
But the front tires don't seem to do as well in deep snow as the WF.
I think the original weight box could be used with either front end
but I don't have personal experience with one on a wide front.

I do have power steering, and a full set of pie weights for the rear. I need to do a little work to the wiring, probably put an alternator on it when I replace the wiring harness. I will have a couple good 12 volt generators for sale.

Had both wide and narrow on our 961-D. Much easier to back a wagon with the narrow front, and it did turn a little sharper. The wide front is smoother when discing plowed fields. Better in the mud and snow too. Both ways have some advantage.

I agree with the others. A narrow front is advantageous when raking hay or any other job where short turns are required.

They steer about the same. I've used a
960 nf with ps. A 951 nf no ps. And a wf
951 no ps for cutting hay with a sickle
mower. Liked the wide front best. Seemed
easier to watch the front tire and steer
straight.

Prefer the the NF. That said I Picked up a wide front. Might pull with it next year if there is a season? It also has the NF if I want to switch them.
