SOS oil migration

Early this spring I damaged the splines on the intermediate PTO shaft on my 881. Just wasn't thinking. I got a replacement shaft and the necessary gaskets and o rings. Split the tractor, replaced it and reassembled. Everything works just fine. Since I don't use the tractor much it was only recently that I noticed the trans oil is migrating into the hydraulic sump but only when the tractor is running. I'll split it again this winter but can someone give me an idea as to what I should look for when I do?
Any help would be appreciated.

How much did you use the PTO after the repair. Did you put significant load on it? Did it hold the load OK?

About 2 months ago I got a post hole digger for it and used it to dig several holes with no problem. That's all I've used the PTO for

It must be an issue with the seal on that shaft, the seal that separates the trans from the rear axle. Easy fix once you split
the tractor.

Most do leak.

If you use the same oil in both the transmission and the hydraulic sump there is no real reason to repair it.

"only when the tractor is running"! Sounds like the transmission lube light switch should be checked! Although the later model tractors did not have a
light so you would be back to the seal.

I do use the same oil in all three sumps. If I run the tractor long enough, it would empty the trans sump and over fill the hydraulic sump. I wouldn't want to use the tractor with little or no oil in the trans.

Actually the lube pressure switch does not work and I plan on replacing it. I have looked in the parts manual and searched in these forums but can't find a part number for the switch even though I remember seeing it in this forum. Can someone give me a part number?

You could "up date your tractor" by replacing the switch with a 1/4?? pipe plug, to verify the problem!

I found the Napa p/n for the switch. It's only $14 so I'll go ahead and replace it. You suggestion is good though.
