3930 transmission filter

i'm changing the transmission oil in my 3930. bolted into the bottom of the transmission is a filter. it appears to be a wire mesh, shrouded
filter. being shrouded, i can't tell how dirty it is. can i clean this filter some how, or do i need to replace it? thanks for the help.

Clean it the best you can
Back flush thru the nipple opening to remove sludge

Glad to hear you doing this, many dont know that little filter screen is there

You can disassemble this a little to help clean it easier, I just kept flushing and rinsing in gasoline, thankfully very little metal fines, no sludge at all.
