Friend has a ford 7000,the steering wheel just spins and does nothing, any ideas what might be wrong and where I should start looking, I havent been to check it out yet, wanted to have some Idea of waht to look for first,,Thanks,,,Jim

Inside the steering box is a linear bearing that does the steering. Most likely all the ball bearing fell out. I had the same thing happen. It is not real fun putting it back together.

If the steering wheel is being turned and nothing else is moving there is one of 2 pins broken in steering motor is causing the problem most likely. My be other problems that could be causing this but all are in steering motor.

Row Crop (7200), or All Purpose? Completely different systems, different causes & solutions.

Shawn, doesn't the utility have mechanical with power assist steering as opposed to hydrostatic?

I should have asked AP or RC seen more RC than APs. Look on nh website theres a shaft that has splines on/in it that my be worn out.

on rc there is an upper shaft that clamps to the lower shaft. it has fine spline and can slip there. tighten up the clamp, drill it and put a pin through both. There are no parts availible for the lower box on this model iirc. its a married unit from factory and no longer availible. how ever you can upgrade it to a modern "orbit", or plessy or newer steering motor with some modifications.

is your pump bad???

I have a similar problem steering worked fine when we started taking apart the 7100 but now the wheel spins freely even when its not running had put a quart of fluid in there.. contacted our local new holland/ford dealer they said it should be misaligned and not broke.. any ideas?

Its a ford 7000 utility with power assist steering, before we took the column off it worked just fine when it was taken off the colum was split to put new seals in and then put back together not knowing that it might need to be aligned just right. When everything was back together we filled the resivoir up full started it and the steering wheel has just free spun ever since we put it back together.. thanks for any help

You need to start a new thread. Yesterday's tractors has two views, classic and modern running concurrently. The stubborn old guys use classic. which doesn't "bump" old topics to the top with a new post like all other forums do, so only half of the regulars will see your addition to the old thread.
