Ford 601 can''t get it to drive

I have recently purchased what I am told is a 1962 Ford industrial 601. It has a front bucket and a Large Ford hoe. Power steering. No PTO and No 3 pt hitch. It has a full frame and looks to be factory built I got it running, clutch works , but it doesn't move. Is it possible that the shifter popped out from the transmission end.
The previous owner said he was in reverse and heard a pop when shifting to 1st gear. ANY IDEAS ??

Does it have a reversing transmission lever on the side of the tranny? If it does your problem could be in there. If it does go out it might be better to replace it with a 5 speed or 4 speed because parts for the reverser are hard to find and expensive. We had a tractor that had the regular 4 speed and someone had installed a reverser into it. You could put it in double reverse and go forward. You could turn your PTO backwards also.

A reverser is an auxiliary transmission that replaces the input shaft on a regular 4 speed transmission. If it has a reverser and that has gone bad, it is possible to install an original input shaft and related parts from a salvage tractor without having to replace the entire transmission. Plus, we don't even know what transmission it has at this point.

Sound like it maybe it's hung up between two gears. If so don't try and force it. It may still be savable, if the previous owner didn't force it and break teeth off the gears. If not a split will be needed to
repair the transmission. Does it stalls when you let the clutch out? Does the rear axle turn? If it has a Sherman combo it could just be in neutral(that would be nice-easy fix).
Best to to start with finding out what you have first. I am assuming that it's a manual transmission, possible a 4 speed? I'm also thinking that it is a 2000 or 4000 light duty industrial or maybe a heavy duty
industrial tractor? They didn't make a industrial 601, but I have seen a 801's with a heavy duty adjustable front axle, that could have a frame if it had a backhoe on it. If you could get pictures that would
help id it or get the model/serial numbers off the pad by the starter under the battery. Does it have a 4 cylinder engine? Does it have any levers on either side of the tractor around the steering, that would
indicate a auxiliary transmission?

Hello, the tractor's medalion displays " industrial " . It does have a 4 speed . When running if you depress the clutch and feel the trans turn, when it stops you can put it into gear and when you let the clutch out nothing happens . it does not stall the tractor. I towed it to my neighbors shop in neutral so i believe it is not stuck in gear. Also the seller states that it is a 132 cu in.engine . It has a ford loader and a hydralic bypass to run the ford back hoe which is huge compared to a sherman. I will also post pics asap ...Thanks

A 1962 Ford tractor with a medallion on the nose that says Industrial is either a 2000 or 4000 industrial model. They did not make a 132 ci engine in that time frame, or ever that I am aware. The 2000 Industrial models had either a 134 ci gas engine or a 144 ci diesel. The 4000 Industrial models had a 172 ci engine, same displacement for both gas and diesel.

If you put the shifter in gear with the engien not running can you still tow it without it turning the engine?

The transmission fill cap is pretty large if I recall. Won't cost you anything to crack it open and look around with a flashlight.
