4400 Front Axel Question

Thanks for the previous advice on swapping stuff over. Today I started the tear down of my 4400.

I was planning on removing the front axle/bolster as one piece. However on the 4400 the front axle has a rear brace pin in the oil pan... So am I correct that I have to first remove the axle from the bolster and pan, and then remove the bolster from the tractor?

My other concern is, the replacement motor I got was out of a farm tractor and has a normal tin pan, will the heavy cast one off of the 4400 fit onto it? Same motor right? Thanks!

Yes axle comes of first then bolster. Cast pan and stamped pan interchange. There is shims between bolster and pan on lower studs , have to go back.

There are 2 pivot pins on those.
The one in the front of the bolster doesn't need to come out if you pull the entire axle and bolster in one piece which is easiest.
But you have to remove the rear pin #56 that goes into the oil pan before you can remove it all. Remove the bolt #59 and you can pry the pin out. As Shawn said, dont lose the spacer washers or you will have loose as a goose steering as the axle thursts fore and aft.
Oil pan is a direct replacement on any 3 cylinder engine. Make sure you use the thinner paper type oil pan gasket. Not a cork one when you put the CI pan on the new engine.

Okay perfect, thanks guys. I ended up pulling rear pin and removing bolster whole. I have the shims but sidnt get a chance to see if they came from the forward or rearward side of the rear bolster loop. Does it matter? Just to remove slop correct? Thanks

Look at the parts drawing Ultradog provided. The dotted line shows the order that they go together. The rear pin gets a washer on it first and then goes through the hole of the rear axle, but the bushing gets inserted into the hoe from the rearward side first. Then another washer goes on the pin once it comes out the back side of the tab and bushing before it goes into the oil pan (the oil pan is not in the picture).
