Ford 8N carburetor problem

I tried to rebuild the carburetor on my friends 8N. After
installing, I turned the fuel valve on and tried to start the
tractor! Fuel began streaming out a little plug nest to the bowl
drain! What did I do wrong? Be advised, this tractor has been
sitting out in the woods for over 10 years. Can anyone advise
me of what I did wrong?

You may not have done anything wrong. There is a drain in the bottom to allow gas to run out if the tractor gets flooded. It is common for the updraft carburetors to flood easy. I would recommend you do a compression test. If the compression is low it won't have enough vacuum to draw gas into the cylinders.

Mark, Thank you! I remember when I replaced the plugs and
such, I was playing around sticking my fingers on top of the
cylinders and turning over the engine! Number 3 and 4 didn’t
blow my finger out like number one did! Looks like I more
work on my hands then I planned!

Do you have the ESSENTIAL MANUALS? No? Get them and read. You have a Sediment Bulb Assembly under the gas tank with a valve to open and close the flow of gas to the carb. Open 2 Turns to run, close when shutting down the tractor. The Bulb Valve Stem, p/n APN-9194, is the only working part on the assembly. It has a rubber seal (many new ones use cheap vinyl) that will get worn out over time and leak. Simply get a new one, a $6 part, no need to buy a whole new bulb assembly at $25. The carb has a brass elbow fuel inlet which the fuel line from Bulb feeds into. The elbow has a fine mesh screen to filter debris before it gets to the carb. Two other screens are on the Bulb. The fact tractor sat for ten years means nothing. Your post is ambiguous. You say "...little plug next to the bowl drain...". The Bulb Assembly doesn't have any plug. The bottom of the carb has sintered bronze,(original was horsehair) drain and a NPT drain plug. If Bulb is source of leak, try fixing, or, if worn, a new valve stem. If carb elbow is source, remove fuel line, remove elbow and check filter screen. If screen is severely clogged up, replace with new if unable to clean -also $6 part. Once leak is stopped, perform the fuel flow test.
