Arps half tracks

I have an opportunity to buy a complete set of Arps half tracks
and an almost complete set of the Bombardier tracks which is
missing one rim, from what the 85 year old owner tells me.
Just wondering if you guys have any thoughts or have used
them in the past. I?m not sure if I have a use for them but think
they would look good bolted up to one of my tractors.

My cousin runs a set of Arps halftracks on an 850 for gathering maple sap. Excellent setup for mud or snow - lots of traction and flotation.

I agree with the "cool" factor. From what I can see they appear to be in good shape. With a lot of use the steel that contacts the ground gets worn down

Felix,
Unless the rubber is great on the bombardier tracks they aren't worth a whole lot. It's a major job to replace them. It looks to me like the arps tracks are actually the Blackhawk brand, which was the lower line of arps. The one without the rim is for the arps. Halftracks are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have had several, once someone sees what I can do with them, they want mine. If the price is right, buy them, sell the rubber ones and keep the arps.

Hi There, Im from the UK and im restoring a tractor. Im looking for a set of Bombardier rubber banded tracks. I was wondering if you might be able to help please?. Im looking for a set of tracks only but happy to take a complete set. I also don't mind what the rubber is like as long as all the track plates and fixings are ok. I know this is a long shot but thought it was worth an ask. Happy to help you if you need anything from the UK.

Felix,
I would grab them if they are priced right. Couple things to check for: make sure there are enough shoes on the steel arps that will work with whatever rear tire size you have on your tractor. Ask the seller if he has extra shoes or other parts laying around. Check the width of the shoes that they are compatible. You might have to extend out the wheels if they are the wider tracks so as not to hit the fenders. Check the steel cleats on the arps tracks that go between the tire chevrons. They are the first to rust out as the metal is thinner there and collects mud and stuff. Doubt that's fixable. Hard to tell from your pic if that is happening already, though there appear to be holes in the cleats (but rounded in your pic as if maybe drilled out). I would keep the rubber bombardier tracks, though I'm a pack rat. You can get new rubber belting. Then you could use those tracks as an alternative to the steel halftracks if you wanted to (without having to swap off the arps idlers).
