Hi

Just joined and need help.

No doubt there is a post(s) on here of how to replace the front seal.

Any help/guidance appreciated or link to existing post(s) on the subject.

Thanks

Peter

You will need to remove the front cover as the seal is installed from the inside of the cover. The oil pan also bolts to the bottom of the front cover and will probably tear the pan gasket when you remove the cover. I would recommend planning on removing the pan and replace the pan gasket.

It'll be about as difficult a job as you can imagine to replace a simple seal, so I would verify that it's actually the seal
that's leaking before you tear into it.

As mhb said, the timing cover will need to come off, which means you'll need to remove the front axle and front bolster before
that. And of course, a front end loader will make it even worse.

Pleased to say I did replace the seal. The timing cover came off - on without having to remove the axle? As I peeled off the many coats of paint etc. it became apparent that the cover had never been removed since it was built in 1960. The seal was like very hard plastic and the replaceable (seal surface) collar very worn. Whilst partially stripped, I will do a compression test, could be another big job coming.
